Joël Bouchard is a former National Hockey League (NHL) defenseman with over 350 games played. In fact, he played for 8 different teams in the big league between 1994 and 2006.

His after-career is even more impressive. After some time as a mentor in hockey schools of Quebec, he made the jump as the assistant coach of the “Junior de Montréal” in 2008. In addition to this new challenge, he also distinguished himself as a collaborator at RDS.

In 2011, he leaves RDS and decides to get involved in a new franchise of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (formerly the “Junior de Montréal). He becomes one of the owners of the team and is named general manager.

It is really after the departure of the team’s head coach in 2014 that we begin to observe Bouchard’s qualities as an educator who takes over from behind the bench. He is appreciated by his players and we can see this throughout his coaching career with the Armada.

In 2018, he was named head coach of the Montreal Canadiens’ farm team, the Laval Rocket.

Highlights:

  • Intense and dynamic coach who’s recognized as an outstanding communicator
