Bruny Surin is a former Canadian star sprinter born in Haiti. After qualifying in the long-jump discipline at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he was persuaded to move to the 100-meter and 4 x 100 relay disciplines. The change paid off.
After finishing fourth at the 100m and reaching the semis in the 4 x 100 in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games, he won a gold medal in the relay at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He also won five medals at the world championships, including two gold. Mr. Surin accomplished two more top-podium performances in the world indoor championships. Retired since 2002, Mr. Surin shares his passion and experience as a very sought-after conferencier.
He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1996 Summer Olympics 4x100 relay team in 2008 and was recently made Knight of the National Order of Quebec.
