On October 24th, at the Parcours du Cerf du Golf de Longueuil, Bruni Surin, Olympic medalist in athletics, and Chantal Machabée, V-P communications for the Montreal Canadiens, have joined forces as spokespersons to attend a corporate event hosted by a Multinational company in the transportation and mechanical field.
They were called as guest celebrities on a panel discussion to address topics such as inclusion and diversity in the workplace and society in general. Through their atypical backgrounds, each guest was able to testify and share the challenges they faced and the tools they used to achieve their dreams.
Bruni Surin, born in Haiti, faced racism, and Chantal Machabée, a woman evolving in an environment traditionally reserved to men, faced sexism. They had to adapt, overcome social inequalities, and build a positive and solid identity in order to persevere and achieve their dream. The result? Bruni Surin, one of Canada's fastest runner, and gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, and Chantal Machabée, First Woman Vice President of Communications for the Montreal Canadiens and one of the most respected women in North American Sports.
The guests were touched by the depth of their testimonies. They were made aware of the trials that some of their colleagues may face and also, how they themselves may experience a need for inclusion and diversity in their image.
